Titanic Buoyancy Challenge
This term, the Primary Seven pupils have been exploring the topic of The Titanic. Today the pupils put their knowledge to the test in a “Titanic Buoyancy Challenge”. In this challenge pupils had to use their understanding of displacement to create a boat which could carry the most pennies. Each group was given three sheets of aluminium foil and a pair of scissors to create their boat. Pupils were given three chances and had to use their problem-solving skills to improve their structure between rounds.
The pupils created some fantastic structures, and the winning team created a boat which carried 143 pennies. It was incredible to watch the pupils work effectively as a team and showcase their understanding.
If you are a fan of the Titanic, make sure to visit Primary Seven at our school open night on Tuesday 5th December. Primary Seven will be hosting a series of Titanic challenge, such as: today’s challenge, arranging primary and secondary sources, creating ice bergs, Titanic role play and much more.
