Star of the Sea Cup

Star of the Sea Cup

Today was an incredible day of football at the Vale Centre 3G pitch. The school hosted the second annual Star of the Sea Cup. We were joined by pupils from Broadbridge, Eglinton , Our Lady of Fatima, Ballykelly, Limavady Central, Termoncanice, Drumachose and Roe Valley. It was brilliant to watch pupils enjoy such a great day of sport with pupils from all the school in the local area.

In the boys’ plate final Ballykelly defeated Our Lady of Fatima after a closely fought final. Both sides fought hard until the end and both schools should be very proud of their players.

Termoncanice emerged as champions of the girls’ shield after a closely fought game with Broadbridge P.S. Congratulations to both schools on a great final.

The Faughanvale boys reached the semi final of the shield before narrowly losing to Roe Valley P.S in an exhilarating game of football. In the final, Cumber Claudy defeated Roe Valley Integrated on penalties after a thrilling game of final. The sportsmanship of both teams during the penalties was brilliant to see.

Broadbridge retained the boys cup after a close encounter with Termoncanice. Both teams represented their school excellently and congratulations to Broadbridge on their victory

We could not be prouder of our girls’ football team after reaching the final of today’s tournament. The girls played in a thrilling end to end game of football against Drumachose. Both sides could not be separated in normal time with Drumachose winning the game on Golden Goal. We are so proud of our girls and congratulations to Drumachose.

Thank you to the Vale Centre for allowing us to use their excellent facilities today, including their hall at lunchtime. The hall witnessed arguably the greatest Macarena dance off in history at lunchtime.

Thank you to Errigal Trophies for their brilliant cups and medals for today’s tournament.  Thank you to Currans for providing refreshments for all the staff at lunchtime today

Thank you to the Steven Gerrard Academy for refereeing today’s games and for helping with so much of the preparation for today. Their enthusiasm through the day was incredible and they built a brilliant rapport with the kids throughout the day.

Congratulations to all the teams and players on a wonderful day of sport. The weather may have been average, but the standard of football certainly was not. We can’t wait for next year’s tournament already.
