Lunchtime League! πŸ†

26th Nov 2023
Lunchtime League fans worldwide were left devastated last week, as fixtures were cancelled due to poor weather. Fear not, our Lunchtime League returned today with a bang. Whilst the weather continues to get colder, the Faughanvale Lunchtime League is beginning to heat up. πŸ”₯

Today’s fixtures opened with a massive parish derby between Faughanvale and Slaughtmanus. The Vale found themselves in a comfortable early lead with Holly Craig and Farrah Loughrey in fine form. Aidan O’Donnell gave a stellar performance in nets and played a massive role in Vale gaining their early four point lead. 😎

With two minutes to go it seemed as if Faughanvale had earned themselves an easy victory… but Slaughtmanus had other ideas. Tomas McCloskey and Tiarnan Fenlon combined together for several massive scores and managed to pull their team back in the game. Tiarnan’s point in the dying embers of the game confirmed the comeback and earned Slaughtmanus a draw. Whilst disappointed to not win the game, Faughanvale’s point secured an automatic semi-final spot. πŸ’ͺ

Ardmore managed to steal top spot on the final day of the group stages with an excellent victory over Steelstown. Cathaoir King continues to shine in the Lunchtime League and scored several breathtaking scores. Anna O’Connor, Connell Davidson and Clodagh Leahy were crucial in Ardmore’s victory and securing top spot. Ardmore will now face the winners of “The Eliminators” in the semi-finals. 🀩

The final game of the group stages proved to be an entertaining game of Gaelic football as Strabane Sigersons managed to upset Magilligan. Alan Hansen infamously stated “You can’t win anything with kids”, this young Strabane team may prove him wrong again. πŸ™Œ

Whilst only P.5, Dara King, Daniel O’Hara and Johnny O’Neill have been terrorising defenders throughout the league with their silky skills and precise shooting. All three were fantastic today and whilst they find themselves in next week’s “Eliminators”, nobody will want to face Strabane in a game of knock-out football. πŸ‘

Next week, the Lunchtime League enters the knockout stages. The first of which being the always entertaining “Eliminator” stage. Steelstown, Strabane and Slaughtmanus will battle it out in a mini-tournament to determine the final semi-finalist. Stay tuned to the social media and website for more updates. πŸ‘€
