Big Pedal 25th March-5th April
Please Check your child's school bag for the Big Pedal letter today.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Get set… we’re taking part in Sustrans Big Pedal 2019, the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking and scooting challenge. The challenge runs from Monday 25th March to Friday 5th April (10 school days). It’s free and we would love everyone to be involved.
The details
On each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils, staff and parents cycling, walking or scooting TO school. During the morning register, your child/children will let their teacher know if you have participated, in actively travelling to school. (adult numbers count too!)
It’s a great way to get more of our pupils travelling actively to school and is a simple way to boost their physical and mental health.
Cycle, walk, scoot and snap to win family prizes
You and your family can also win prizes during Sustrans Big Pedal. Simply post a photo of you and your child cycling, walking or scooting to school on social media during the challenge using #BigPedalWin. To be in with a chance of winning, you’ll need to follow Sustrans on Instagram instagram.com/sustrans, Twitter twitter.com/sustrans or Facebook facebook.com/Sustrans. Be sure to check the terms and conditions found on the Big Pedal website prior to entering the competition.
What’s next?
All you need to do is encourage your child/children to cycle, walk or scoot to school on as many days as possible during the event, and join them on their way.
WALKING BUS
We are operating a Walking Bus for the 10 days of the challenge. At least two staff members will lead this ‘bus’.
Where: Begins at The Rising Sun
Time: Leaves 8.30am sharp.
**Parents and children can join the walking bus anywhere along the route to school.
**Please wait for the bus to reach your spot so we can all walk as a group!
**We ask that no children are walking unaccompanied by an adult.
WHOLE SCHOOL WALK
On Friday 5 April we’d love ALL our pupils and parents to be involved in the walk to school. Therefore, we will be closing the school carparks on this morning and everyone will park at the GAA pitch and walk, in groups, to school. Arrive from 8.15am. This gives every child the chance to be involved in the Big Pedal even if they don’t normally cycle, walk or scoot to school.
For more information about the event go to www.bigpedal.org.uk. Enjoy the challenge!
